Increasing the use of Renewable energy sources by using Demand Side Management Duration of the project: 01/10/2009-30/09/2012
Implementation of active demand management, to allow more renewable energy use on the electricty net. |

Monitoring of a low energy residential building
Duration of the project: 01/09/09-31/08/11 This low energy residential building is equipped with the most modern technologies (heat pump, balanced ventilation, active sun screen, etc) .All temperatures and energy flows inside are monitored and visualised online.

| E-calculator Duration of the project: 15/01/2010 - 30/09/2010 Nowadays, quite a lot of "energy saving" investments can be made, each with his own cost and impact on a building. This project wants to create a tool for both the buyer and building constructor, to aid them in the choice which investments are the most suitable.

Duration of the project: 01/09/2007 - 31/08/2010
What is the saving potential , from re-balancing a heat-distribution network in a building? Most of the time, only the heat generation plant is optimised, while a potential of 0-30% savings can be easily achieved!

Development of a simulation model of an alkalic fuel cell.
Duration of the project: 2007 - 2012
This PHD creates a a stationary (or partially dynamic) prediction model about an alkalic fuel cell. This will visualise and quantify the possible improvements when modifying the fuell cell parameters. More info:zie detailfiche (only available in Dutch!) |

Hydrogen net
Duration of the project: 01/06/2009-31/08/2012
Realisation of a knowledge region about hydrgogen and hydrogen technology, in Flanders & South of The Netherlands. KHK is a partner of Hydrogen net (waterstofnet). |

PCM = phase change materials
Duration of the project: 01/09/2008- 01/09/2011 PCM's are materials with a high latent heat content (while melting). This project assesses PCMS's to enlarge the thermic buffer capacity of limited storage vessels, at temperatures 25-40°C. More info: zie detailfiche (only available in Dutch!) |

Photovoltaic solar cells
Duration of the project: 15/12/2009- 15/12/2011 In this project, differences between build-in and build-up photovoltaic solar cells are investigated and quantified.

PHD: Overall efficiency of heating systems in low energy buildings.
Duration of the project: 20/05/2004 -31/12/2010 This PHD is part of a larger research goal that aims to improve the efficiency of buildings, on SYSTEM level. Tough building components are selected optimally, the combination isnt always optimal: Most well insulated buildings with heating systems optimised for winter conditions, have very low heating efficiencies in mid-season! Selection of control and communication hardware for integration in EcoSCADA (online energy management system)
Duration of the project: 2009 - 2010 The energy management system EcoSCADA is currently impemented on a wide range of industries. Therefore, it needs to cooperate with a vast group of hardware. Gateways and suitable components are required, to fit this management system. |

Selection of suitable mobile energy logging & controlling equipment.
Because of the shift from "energy visualisation" towards "energy management", two way comunication is becoming critical, to send commands for good energy management back from the controller to the user. meer. This project will list currently available and cost-effective bi-directional mobile technologiesfor energy logging/control.

Development of flexible platform for multi-diciplinary case studies (OOF)
Often the classes in our university college are illustrated using trans-diciplinary case studies. This project will develop a web-based platform, that can handle the flexible needs of multi-diciplinary case studies. More info: zie detailfiche (only available in Dutch!) |

Promotion of renewable energy use (e.g. bio-gas) in Kroatia
Kroatië is aiming to join the European union in the (near) future. One of the most important pitfalls on this route, is their current bio-waste management. To solve this problem, and to reach the target of 5,7% production of green-renewable energy, they are working on (partially) converting the bio-waste into bio-gas. For knowledge and technology transfer about these installations, they are counting on flemish support. More info: zie detailfiche (only available in Dutch!) |
